In August 2008, the Portuguese Society of Authors (SPA) collected reports regarding possible cases of plagiarism against Tony Carreira. The references made to plagiarism related to three particular songs titled Depois de Ti (Mais Nada); Ai Destino, Ai Destino; and Leva-me ao Céu.[2][3] SPA stated: "We have heard the songs and reached the conclusion that, there is one song, Depois de Ti, which is an apparent copy without authorization. This is a serious situation in which Tony Carreira and Ricardo Landum have signed to be the owners of the song." The SPA referred to blogs as The Real Tony (www.overdadeirotony.blogspot.com) and Konga's Blog (kongas.vox.com), which compares Depois de Ti (Mais Nada) (theme registered in the SPA (Portugal) in 1999) with Después de Ti...¿Qué? popularized by Mexican Cristian Castro and signed by Rudy Pérez (song included in the album Lo Mejor de Mí, 1997). The copyright and publishing of Rudy Pérez belong to the Universal Music Publishing Group. That is, any authorization for use of a work done by this composer has to be given by this entity. Along with Universal, the Portuguese newspaper Diário de Notícias (DN) found that these rumours were being assessed. For a plagiarism to be considered obvious and proven fact, it is necessary to meet a number of conditions and a formal investigation has to take place. The source of the Portuguese Society of Authors contacted by DN also reminded that in these cases it is usual that the publishers request involve all the work of the artist in question for further analysis. In cases where the plagiarism is considered, the most usual is the call for a compensation that corresponds to the size of the artist in question and that, somehow, equivalent to the sales and royalties collected.[4][5]
